It may have taken more than 20 years for The Police to tour again but their decision certainly paid off as the trio racked in more than $142 million in 2007 for their world tour and added music sales. The lion’s share of that figure came from their tour, with an estimated $133 million in ticket sales.

 

Sting, Stuart Copeland and Andy Summers easily topped Josh Groban who ranked second with $104.6 million in ticket and music sales. According to a Forbes magazine report the crooner hit it big with his Christmas album Noel with 3.7 million units sold and attracted a faithful following when he was on the road. The album was the year’s best seller despite being on the shelf for just three months.

 

Country star Kenny Chesney had nothing to complain about as the singer brought in $96.2 million in music and concert ticket sales. Chesney established himself as a bankable draw on the road as he generated more than $70 million from ticket sales.

 

Chesney just edged Justin Timberlake who brought in $95.7 million in 2007. The former boy-bander tuned solo star matched Chesney’s ticket sales with more than $70 million for the year.

 

New comer Miley Cyrus, better known to her Disney fans as Hannah Montana, rounded out the top five with $87.4 million with the majority of that coming from album sales. The teenager could have rivaled the top dogs but her “Best of Both Worlds” tour listed tickets at a meager $36 dollars compared to the $112 face value on Police tickets.
