Hollywood star Nicolas Cage nearly lost his face after a prop bomb accidentally blew up near him onset. The actor was filming action movie Windtalkers when the explosive detonated and burned off his facial hair.

He recalls, "My face almost melted off when a movie stunt went wrong. I was shooting Windtalkers in 2002 and there was a moment where I was going to be bombed pretty badly. "Everything is very safe on location, but sometimes nature just takes over.

The wind suddenly changed direction, I was very close to the bomb and, when it went off, all this fire shot towards my face. I could feel my eyebrows and hair burning.

"I was completely stupefied but instinctively threw myself out of the way within a split second. If I hadn’t done that my face would be very different to the one I have today."
