Wyclef Jean, who just dropped his new album, " Carnival Vol. II: Memoirs of an Immigrant" on Columbia Records, is being sued for copyright infringement by Blahz of New York rap duo Blahzay Blahzay.
According to XXL magazine, the former Fugee is accused of using a sample from the group's 1996 self-titled album without permission.
According to the lawsuit, Clef used a sample of the group's lone hit "Danger" for his track "Welcome to the East," but failed to get the proper clearance. Blahz did say in a statement, however, that he was contacted by Wyclef's people over use of the sample.
Meanwhile, Fox411 columnist Roger Friedman says Wyclef's political endorsement is in hot demand among candidates in the 2008 presidential race.
Friedman writes: Jean, a longtime Clinton supporter, so far has not endorsed a candidate. He sang an amended version of his song, 'If I Was President on the ['Jimmy Kimmel Show'], alternating between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in the lyrics.
"Sources say Wyclef, who’s proven himself a powerful asset on the campaign trail, will likely wait to see who the Democratic nominee is before making his endorsement or handing over a song. 'Everyone wants him,' an insider said."
