TOM HANKS is disappointed by the cancellation of the Golden Globes ceremony as it is "one of the best bashes" on the Hollywood social calendar.

The Forrest Gump star insists Sunday’s (13Jan08) awards ceremony - which will this year take the form of a news conference after members of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) boycotted the event in support of the Writers Guild of America strike - will be a missed opportunity for him to have fun.

He says, "It’s a shame, the Globes are one of the best bashes. They ply you with food and really nice champagne. I was always satisfied with a little tipple, and you get to catch up with loads of friends."
