Jean Grae

Brooklyn MC, and Blacksmith Records artist Jean Grae will join her mother, acclaimed South African jazz vocalist Sathima Bea Benjamin, onstage for a performance in New York City on January 23. The show will mark the first time the two respected artists, have shared a stage. The event will mark the re-issue of Benjamin’s 1963 album A Morning in Paris, which features appearances from jazz legend Duke Ellington and Jean’s father, pianist Abdullah Ibrahim. The performance will take place at the Sweet Rhythm jazz club on Seventh Avenue and Bleeker Street. Jean signed with Talib Kweli’s Warner Brothers backed Blacksmith Records in 2005 after making noise in the New York underground for nearly a decade.
