Ricky Gervais wants to be the next James Bond.

The British comic star insists he would be perfect as the suave spy and is ready to challenge current 007 Daniel Craig for the role.

Ricky joked: "I shall be the next James Bond. Yes, I am several inches too short, but I could always surround myself with much shorter actors!"

Although Ricky is keen to portray the 007 spy, he has no aspirations to become a Hollywood actor.

He said: "I just don't want to be a film star. I'm just not excited by seeing my face on screen. For me, it is all about the creative process. The creative idea is the exciting bit and then it is all about how much you ruin it.

"In 20 years time when I am too fat to walk, I'll look up at my shelf and I'll have 'The Office' box set and the 'Extras' box set, a couple of films, maybe three, and I will be happy with that."
