LCD Soundsystem's 'Sound of Silver' - the second record by New York's acclaimed producer James Murphy - is the UK critics' Album of the Year, according to HMV's annual 'Poll of Polls'.

Each year HMV compile their definitive 'Polls of Polls', which identifies the best overall album of the year based on the average of individual end-of-year lists published in national music magazines, newspapers, listings guides and on the Internet.

James Murphy's album - the follow-up to his much-lauded 2005 debut - is this year's clear winner with 'Kala', the second album from London-based rapper M.I.A., taking second place.

Coming in third is Radiohead's 'In Rainbows', released as a download-only album in October 2007. The CD version is in stores on 31st December. Radiohead narrowly edge out UK band Klaxons 'Myths of the Near Future', which was the winner of the 2007 Nationwide Mercury Prize in September.
