Singer R. Kelly finally did make it into a Chicago courtroom. He was a day late for his scheduled appearance on his now five-years-old-and-counting child pornography case and the judge presiding over the case had threatened to issue an arrest warrant for the embattled singer.

When police observed that a log book indicated that the driver hadn't had his mandated period of rest, the bus was ordered off the road for eight hours, reports The Associated Press. Attorney Ed Genson explained this to Judge Vincent Gaughan, but the Judge admonished Kelly anyway, saying he was "very disappointed" by his no-show. On Friday, Gaughan will determine whether to revoke Kelly's bond and will finally set a trial date. A trial start date has been pending since 2002. Initially set to start in September of this year, Kelly's child pornography trial was beset with a series of delays, the last being the prosecutor's pregnancy complications. Despite the circumstances, Gaughan allowed Kelly to travel for a tour with Keyshia Cole and J. Holiday, where he is the headliner. (Singer Ne-Yo was also on the bill, but says he was kicked off the tour by Kelly). "The very least he could do is be here for his appointed court date," Assistant State's Attorney Shauna Boliker told USAToday. Kelly has cancelled his scheduled tour stop in Minneapolis tonight. He is scheduled to perform in Chicago tomorrow, unless his bond is revoked. Kelly has had his share of other problems this year. Just recently, Kelly's longtime publicist Regina Daniels and her husband, Chicago retailer George Daniels, publicly diassociated themselves from the superstar. Kelly told Hip Hop Soul magazine earlier this year: "I'm the Ali of today. I'm the Marvin Gaye of today. I'm the Bob Marley of today. I'm the Martin Luther King, or all the other greats that have come before us. And a lot of people are starting to realize that now." He later said his comments were taken out of context.
