Notorious B.I.G

The constant legal actions surrounding the 1997 murder of the Notorious B.I.G. (real name: Christopher Wallace) hit another wall on Monday (December 17) when a U.S. district judge dismissed a second wrongful-death lawsuit filed by the rapper's family against the city of Los Angeles and former LAPD officer Rafael Pérez. Judge Florence-Marie Cooper sided with the city when she dismissed the case, which was originally filed in April (see "Wallace Family File Another Lawsuit Against Los Angeles For Death Of Notorious B.I.G."), due to the Wallace family not filing the suit within the designated time frame. "This was not the primary civil-rights claim, that suit is still going forward," Perry Sanders, the lead attorney in the Wallace family's ongoing wrongful-death suit, told the Associated Press. "This was a standalone action based on state laws, but the rigorous rules state that if you don't file suit within six months of the injury, then the suit cannot go forward, and we didn't find out that Pérez was on duty until August 2006." The April suit alleged that Pérez, along with fellow former police officers David Mack and Nino Durden, to murder the late rapper and that the city of Los Angeles covered up the officers' involvement to avoid being tangled in a lawsuit that would make the city liable in the killing. New evidence recently uncovered indicated that Pérez was on duty the night of the rapper's death, though the officer has denied any involvement. ...

A warrant was issued for R. Kelly's arrest recently after the R&B singer missed a court date because his tour bus was stopped by police in Utah. Judge Vincent Gaughan, the presiding judge in Kelly's child-pornography case, has entered the warrant, although it won't go into effect until Thursday (December 20) -- when he is ordered to appear at 9 a.m. The singer must obtain permission each time he travels outside the state of Illinois, and prosecutors in Cook County told the Chicago Sun-Times that Gaughan has already given Kelly a lot of leeway. "This is just an abuse of the process. It's disrespectful of your honor," Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Shauna Boliker said. Kelly's defense lawyer Ed Genson reportedly said the bus was "detained because of some snow" following a concert in Sacramento, California, and that police needed to check the bus log because it wasn't filled out the right way. According to the Sun-Times, Genson told Gaughan that Kelly had tried his best to make it to court on time. ...

The post has garnered a heated reaction, with TMZ users calling it "tasteless," "insensitive," "sick," "morbid" and "worse than grave-robbing." Users also called the site's staffers "pigs." ...

"I'm madly in love with him," she said. "He understands how to treat a woman and give me respect. And I'm gonna miss him on tour." Fergie reportedly started to cry after making that comment, as she did at the top of the chat, when she was told she had earned the Woman of the Year honor. "It feels like such an accomplishment. ...
