Rapper 50 Cent became the most high profile artist to perform in Kosovo when he took stage at a Pristina (Kosovo’s largest city) soccer stadium in front of 25,000 earlier this week. According to Reuters, people questioned whether he would show due to the potential of politically-motivated violence in the area. “I haven’t missed a show date in my career,” 50 told Reuters. He said he’s been all too familiar with idea of violence. “I’ve been to Iraq. I performed for the soldiers. I’ve been to Israel. I’ve been to Beirut. They actually bombed the week after I left. …I won’t get a chance to see the entire world, unless I go everywhere." Emcee/singer/poet/on-air personality Amanda Diva released the first in a trilogy of EP’s yesterday (Dec. 18) via iTunes. Though she’s already delivered mixtapes (including last year’s Still Sucka Free), a book of poetry (“Young Skin, Wise Mind, Old Soul”), and a mini-tour with Floetry’s Marsha Ambrosius, she says Life Experience will be her official introduction as an artist. “It’s the introduction to me as a full-fledged artist, and I think for some people they’ve known me as a poet, they’ve known me as a radio personality, they know me as a TV host, but they don’t know me as that,” she told SmokingSection.Rawkus.com.
Rapper David Banner will be taking on the role of living legend Biz Markie in January when filming begins on “The Vapors,” a movie billed as bringing to life true stories of the Queensbridge, NY 80's hip-hop collective The Juice Crew. Clifton Powell will appear as DJ Mr. Magic and actress/singer Keke Palmer will be playing Roxanne Shante, the Juice Crew's teenage female rap sensation who spawned a series of answer records with her hit "Roxanne's Revenge," itself and answer to UTFO's "Roxanne, Roxanne."
Singer Keith Sweat is definitely trying to make his career last forever. In addition to his A Christmas of Love album released in November and nationally syndicated slow jams radio show, “The Keith Sweat Hotel” launched in February, Sweat has signed a new deal with Atco Records (under Warner Music Group’s Rhino Records) to distribute his first studio album since 2002’s Rebirth. Just Me is slated for a March 18 release and is already boasting collaborations with prior vocal partners Keyshia Cole on “Love You Better” and Athena Cage on “Butterscotch.”
