Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Singer/songwriter John Mayer has recently admitted having a crush on Ricki Lake and she also confesses to liking him but the original Hairspray star insists there's nothing to tell.

Lake tells People Wednesday during the magazine's photo shoot that their relationship hasn't progressed to anything worth talking about.

"I swear to God, there is no story. I met him at a party. He admitted he had a crush and I admitted, hey, vice versa. That was it. I wish there was actually something to tell. There was nothing."

New York Posts's gossip page, Page Six, reported last week that Lake and the 30-year-old "Your Body Is A Wonderland" singer exchanged phone numbers at a Manhattan party.

"He was adorable. Nice. But I've been more intimate with you than I was with him," Lake says that even if there had been something more for them, the tabloid turmoil would have killed it immediately. "The media [attention] blew my chances!" the single mom quips.

Lake had attended the premiere for John C. Reilly's Walk Hard: The Delivery Cox Story where Mayer was also present although their paths did not cross. Lake says the crush issue had been "completely overblown" when she was asked again about their apparent romance at the premiere.
