Usher, Bow Wow, Omarion, Spice 1, and Otis Redding

Singer/dancer Usher may be back on Broadway with in "Golden Boy," a revival of a Sammy Davis Jr.'s role in the 1964 musical (that was based on a play by Clifford Odet) about a pianist who gives up his music career to become a championship boxer, reports the New York Post. "I can't tell you the contracts have been signed yet, but Usher's interest in the show is real," composer Charles Strouse (who co-wrote the score) told the NYP. "He's a rare talent. He moves so well, and he's a terrific singer. I would be the most flattered guy in the world if he does the show." Usher played a leading role as Billy Flynn in "Chicago" in August 2006.

If he's recovered from his hospital stay, rapper Bow Wow will join singer Omarion and the Entertainers 4 Education Alliance at an undisclosed location today where they are scheduled to sign autographs and speak to over 500 students about the importance of staying in school and pursuing dreams. Columbia records labelmate, singer Tiffany Evans will offer a performance. "Education is the greatest gift for a child. Giving us an opportunity to encourage students to work hard is rewarding for us," Bow Wow said in a statement released prior to his hospitalization. "We are blessed to be able to give back and the Entertainers 4 Education Alliance Organization is the perfect way to do that," Omarion added. The panel/performance event will triple as a toy drive for Toys 4 Tots, an organization collecting holiday gifts for children in need.

In recognition of the 40th anniversary of the death of soul singer icon Otis Redding, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Macon, GA is hosting a free-to-the-public memorial reception granting access to the exhibit "Otis Redding, I've Got Dreams to Remember" (on display until Sep. 10, 2008). Also paying tribute is the Stax Museum of American Soul Music in Memphis, TN exhibiting hand-written lyrics, never-before-shown photographs and other mementos from the private collection of his widow, Zelma (until Apr. 30, 2008). Redding became part of the music industry in the early 60's and created a series of classic tracks including "Respect" (a Top 10 for him and No. 1 for Aretha Franklin) and "(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay" (released posthumously and his first million-seller). He passed at Dec. 10, 1967 at 26-years-old from a plane crash that also killed 4 members of his back-up band, The Bar-Kays. Earlier this year, the Redding family honored his musical influence with the launch of The Big "O" Youth Educational Dream Foundation, an organization encouraging the enhancement of life through the arts. Rapper Robert "Spice 1" Green is "coming along really well," his mother, Jean Green-Craven told the San Francisco Chronicle. Green is recovering from a collapsed lung after being shot while in his car parked outside his parents' Hayward, CA home early last Monday (Dec. 3). Though police have not announced an official motive or suspect, his family speculates the incident was a result of an attempted car jacking. Green told his family that he had been sitting in his Cadillac Escalade, listening to music and talking on the phone when someone tried to "jimmy" the passenger-side door. He was shot after demanding to know who it was. Green's stepfather Jerry Craven mentioned that Green's windows were tinted so the suspect might not have realized someone was in the car. "He's in pain, but otherwise he's coming along really well," said Green-Craven. "He's a very lucky young man."
