Floyd Mayweather

*Floyd Mayweather shut down England's Ricky Hatton in the 10th round to retain his World Boxing Council welterweight crown. In Saturday's showdown of undefeated fighters, Mayweather caught Hatton with a left to the chin as the British fighter was swinging a punch of his own. Hatton rose but Mayweather followed with a left hook that dropped Hatton moments later. "I threw a hook and he walked right into it. He never saw it coming," Mayweather said. "I wanted to show the fans I could punch with power." Mayweather improved to 39-0 with his 25th victory inside the distance when referee Joe Cortez halted a bout filled with clinching and bumping at 1:35 of the 10th round.

*Front row seats for the Roy Jones/Felix Trinidad on Jan. 19 in New York's Madison Square Garden will go for $15,000, reports Page Six. Tickets go on sale today at Ticketmaster; HBO Pay-Per-View will carry the bout. Trinidad, from Puerto Rico, is 42-2, 35 KOs. Jones, from Pensacola, Fla., is 51-4, 38 KOs.

*Indiana Pacers guard Jamaal Tinsley escaped injury as he and several companions were targeted in a shooting Sunday morning that wounded one person outside a downtown hotel in Indianapolis. The team's equipment manager Joey Qatato, 48, was shot in both elbows as he sat with Tinsley in the player's Rolls Royce. He was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he was treated and released. Police said the shooting involved an assault rifle and followed a confrontation when Tinsley and his friends were leaving the "Cloud 9" club.
