*HBO Films has selected Ron Shelton ("Hollywood Homicide," "Bad Boys II") to direct its upcoming picture about Major League Baseball's home run king, Barry Bonds, to air on the cable channel.

Last season, Bonds broke Hank Aaron's all-time home run record. On Nov. 15, the baseball star was indicted on federal charges for perjury and obstruction of justice for allegedly lying under oath when he told a grand jury he had never used performance-enhancing drugs. Bonds, who will be arraigned next month, is painted in "Game of Shadows" as a talented ball player who hoped to increase his hitting power after watching bulked-up sluggers Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa race to break Roger Maris' single-season record of 61 homers in 1998. Eventually, Bonds broke McGwire's single-season record of 70 and passed Aaron's all-time mark of 755 homers, but his accomplishments were downplayed by media convinced he got there by cheating. Shelton will pen the screenplay for HBO Films with his "Tin Cup" writing partner John Norville once the writers strike is over.
