SEAN TAYLOR

*One day after the Washington Redskins play the Buffalo Bills this Sunday, owner Daniel Snyder has offered to fly the entire team down to Miami for the funeral of their slain teammate, Sean Taylor.

The service for No. 21 will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Pharmed Arena on the campus of Florida International University. The funeral will be open to the public.

Before the players took the field at Redskins Park Wednesday for their first full practice since Taylor's death early Tuesday, they were paid a visit by Taylor's father, Pedro Taylor, and girlfriend Jackie Garcia - both of whom addressed the team.

"Many of these guys were wondering, 'How in the world am I going to go out and do this on Sunday?'" said Brett Fuller, the team chaplain, according to the Associated Press. "And when Mr. Taylor stood up and said go out and win these next five and make it to the playoffs, we felt a surge in the room, that he almost gave us permission to play well."

Mr. Taylor never said that the team should win out the season in honor of his son, but many players adopted that feeling nonetheless, the AP reported. The Redskins (5-6) are in contention for a playoff berth despite three straight losses.

"We all know that's something Sean would want for us," defensive end Andre Carter said. "You've got to keep on moving forward."

Following the talk, team members tried to focus on Sunday's home game against the Bills. Players went to their game-planning meetings - which were shorter than normal - and later held a rather subdued afternoon practice.

"Nothing was normal about today," said linebacker London Fletcher, who will play his former team on Sunday. "We had the meetings, but it wasn't the normal type of meetings. Practice, it was practice, but it just wasn't the same type of feeling, so to speak. We tried to make it feel the same, but I found myself thinking about Sean and imagining him out on the football field playing free safety for us."

As for the ongoing investigation of Taylor's shooting, police say they've found no indication the NFL safety was targeted or knew the assailant who broke into his home. Miami-Dade police director Robert Parker called it "more like a random event."

Evidence indicates one or more intruders barged into Taylor's home in the affluent Miami suburb of Palmetto Bay early Monday, Parker said. After a confrontation inside the house, the 24-year-old was shot once in the upper leg and died early Tuesday after losing a massive amount of blood.

Police said they had no suspects, and were still investigating a possible link to a Nov. 17 break-in at Taylor's home, during which they said someone pried open a front window, rifled through drawers and left a kitchen knife on a bed.

Many postings on message boards discussing Taylor's death express skepticism over the police department's theory that the shooting was random. Taylor's childhood friend, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antrel Rolle, also disputes that notion and said Taylor had many enemies on the streets of Miami.

Rolle said: "This was not the first incident. They've been targeting him for three years now."

"He really didn't say too much [about it]," Rolle said, "but I know he lived his life pretty much scared every day of his life when he was down in Miami because those people were targeting him. At least, he's got peace now."

Rolle said he hadn't spoken to Taylor in a while, and that the Redskin had disassociated from the crowd he hung around with to build a new life with his girlfriend and young daughter.

"They say it was a burglary. It absolutely was not a burglary," Rolle said. "Sean, he had a large group of friends, and he no longer hung out with those friends, so you never know where this came from."
