It's been a while since we've heard a female emcee unstuck in the cadence of simplistic staccato. Although we have been blessed with females bringing formidable skills to the mic such as Bahamadia, there has been plenty of room in the realm of conscious feminine emcees. GoodVibe's new diva of depth is the beautiful and multitalented Mystic. As a member of Digital Underground, Mystic has already proven her stealth on stage in addition to her worth as a songwriter and poet.
See Also:Her new LP due out this Spring, Cuts For Luck And Scars For Freedom, is an impressive collection of haunting musical murals. She paints an essence of pain and reflection in her lyrics, and her soothing voice lends layers of mood to the project with a variance of production talent from Shock G (Digital Underground), The Angel, Sample 208, The Elements, A-Plus (Hieroglyphics), Chops, Manifest, The Dotrix, 427 (Cali Agents, Planet Asia), Spontaneous, and Amp Live (Zion I). From the serious social messages in "Ghetto Birds" and "Fatherless Child" to the more upbeat anthem "W" featuring Planet Asia, this album is consistently rich in subject matter. Although Mystic's lyrical abilities are much more evident in the rousing "Girlfriend Sistagirl", her energy is still captured in every soulful line of this project. Headz will appreciate the relatable experiences that Mystic conveys in her songs. We have been in dire need of an heir to the Queendom of Hip Hop. Our poetic princess has finally arrived.
