Rawkus Records and Game Recordings are playing "hot potato" with Royce the 59". Lyricist Lounge 2 coughs up a new single from the brother who was thought to be ½ of a dynamic duo when he premiered with Eminem back in the day. "Bad Meets Evil" (the single as well as the track on Ems first LP) built some serious anticipation for this MC. After bouncing between Game, Tommy Boy, and Rawkus Records, we get "Lets Grow" as one side of a "double A-side record."
See Also:Royces first verse revisits the time when him and Em were tight. Royce insists that though the two dont speak much anymore, theyre still cool. Jay Dee for Pay J Productions lends the spacey track with a mellow yet supportive sound that allows Royce to threaten to get vicious on the mic. The other two verses are aimed at weak lyricists, sell outs, women, and battle-hungry MCs. While you wont find anything phenomenal on the single, it should help curb your appetite for Royce until his album drops. Next up is the "Bucktown Committee" aka Cocoa Brovas. "Get Up" is a Hi-Tek anthem-styled track with the boys spitting their trademark Duck Down flow. While the hook puts you in the mind of "Jump" from Chris and Chris, the sample is a little too cute over the track which is a little too rough and the contrast makes for excitement the like hearing a new freestyle on a mix tape. While this isnt nearly as grimy as the old Beatminerz sound, its still bumping. As expected, theres a definitely a reggae feel to the underlying drums. Hi Tek does it again. Definitely a crowd mover, Tek and Steele drop this one strictly to insure you remember they havent gone anywhere. While they appear courtesy of Duck Down Records, Im convinced we wont see an album unless Rawkus drops it.
