moka only

Moka Only a/k/a Flowtorch is a rare find in Hip-Hop today. He produces and emcees and he does them both very well. These facts manifest themselves on his new CD "Road Life" which is full of fresh, crisp beats and effortless flows.

Moka Only hails from Vancouver, Canada where he developed a following as part of a group called Split Sphere. He gained a much larger audience in 1999 when he guested on Len's multi-platinum "Can't Stop the Bum Rush". He's rolled solo several times and he promises that there will be more. But "Road Life" is a CD you'll want to come back to again and again just to enjoy the pure feel of it without any of the usual trappings.

As you listen to "Road Life" you realize that this is a man who finds music and inspiration everywhere. His flows are tight but comfortable, as if he's been walking around with them for years, and his music has a natural, environmental feel to it. One of his tracks brilliantly incorporates a train whistle into the mix. Other times he opts to go the instrumental route, filling space with concoctions from his Korg Triton.

The CD itself has more of a "I just have to get this out to get it out" feel than a "I have to get this out to make some money" feel. He recorded all of the tracks in his home studio so some of the recording seems spur of the moment, others more refined. Everything is worth listening to.

"Road Life" simply represents the natural next step for an artist like Moka Only. He is living Hip-Hop and the CD is a buy.
